There was nothing wrong with the Billet itself! It was the way the shipping company handled it wrong and bent the billet and put a dent in it. I had planned to make a chef knife but now will use it for smaller knives.

To make a great, high-quality blade, you start with great, high-quality material. This Is THE steel to use. The blades made from this and other billets, have all turned out beautiful, durable and they hold terrific edges. I highly recommend any of their damascus billets and I'm not just saying that to be nice... Part of my growing reputation, as a knife-maker, rides on ADS' quality and reputation, as I use, exclusively, their billets for all of my Damascus projects.
